Is searching for a renter free?

Yes. Searching by name, email, mobile number or ID is always free and never creates a record. You only pay if a match is found and you choose to unlock the full report.

How much does a full report cost?

Accepted Answer

£15 to unlock a single report, or unlimited unlocks with a £45/month or £399/year subscription. Monthly plans include up to 5 team seats; annual plans include unlimited seats.

Question 3

Are there refunds if I don't like what a report says?

Accepted Answer

No. Payments for single reports and subscriptions are non-refundable once a report has been unlocked or a billing period has started — you're paying for access to information that's already been provided, not for a guaranteed outcome. Full detail is in our Terms & Conditions.

Do I need to verify my identity to list a renter?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every subscriber verifies their email or mobile number (or, for companies, a business email and registration number) before they can list anyone. This helps stop bots, fake accounts, and retaliatory listings.

Can a company or letting agency use Assess the Renter?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Companies verify separately from individuals — with a registered company name, registration number, and a business email on their own domain — and can invite team members onto a shared monthly or annual subscription.

Is Assess the Renter a credit bureau or linked to banks?

Accepted Answer

No. We're an independent platform only. Every listing, rating and reply is submitted directly by subscribers based on their own experience — we don't verify, investigate or endorse listings, and we're not affiliated with any bank or credit bureau. What if I've been listed and disagree with it?

You'll be notified by email with a reference number. Using that reference number together with the email the listing was sent to, you can view the full listing — every question's rating, the written reason, and any photos submitted — and add a right of reply. Both the reference number and matching email are required to view it, so no one else can look up your case file: if either is wrong, including a random reference number, you'll simply see "No listing found with that reference." Your reply is linked permanently to the listing and shown to anyone who unlocks the report.

Assess the Renter works worldwide, across property, vehicles, equipment, furniture, venues and more, with support for international phone numbers and dial codes.

Can I contact the person who listed a renter for more information?

Accepted Answer

Their email is always shown so you can reach them directly. Their phone number is only shown if they chose to share it when listing — it's optional.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Accepted Answer

Yes, monthly and annual plans can be cancelled anytime. You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period — cancelling doesn't refund the current period.

What happens if multiple people share the same name?

You'll be asked to pick the right match using category and location before anything else is shown — no contact details are revealed until you've confirmed the correct person.

Do you comply with data protection law?

Yes. Assess the Renter is built with privacy protection at its core, wherever in the world you're using it. No private contact information is ever given out: masked reports only ever confirm what the searching party already holds themselves, and listings reflect an individual's or company's own rating and opinion of a rental experience — not a disclosure of anyone's personal data. We aim to comply with relevant data protection laws, including POPIA (South Africa) and UK/EU GDPR, for anyone whose data we process, whether a subscriber or a listed renter. Will I see the renter's full contact details in a report?

Accepted Answer

No. To protect privacy and confidentiality, a renter's email, mobile number and ID are always partially masked in search results and unlocked reports — only their name, country and category are shown in full. This doesn't take anything away from you: if you're the one who listed the renter, you already have their full contact details, since you entered them yourself. If you're searching for someone, you already have the detail you searched with (their email, mobile number or ID) to compare against the masked version and confirm it's a match. The masking exists to protect the renter from having their full personal information exposed to every subscriber who searches for them — Assess the Renter shares rental experiences, not a public database of personal contact details.

Question 14

Do I need to upload anything when listing a renter?

Yes — a supporting document such as the rental or lease agreement is required when listing a renter. This document is kept on file and only ever shared with the parties involved if the listing is disputed; it's never shown to subscribers viewing a report, since it may contain sensitive personal information. Photos, which don't contain personal information, can optionally be added and are shown as part of the report.
